Andrew Weldon Signs a Driver Development Contract with SS Racing
Indianapolis, IN. (November 25, 2005) - Ken Smith, President of SS Racing, announced today that up-and-coming driver, Andrew Weldon, has been signed for a 2006 Developmental program.
“Andrew tested with us at Anderson Speedway a few weeks ago,” said Smith. “He did well but most of all showed a willingness to learn.”
“Andrew displayed to us his commitment to racing with a whatever it takes attitude. We felt he would be a great addition to our program for 2006 and beyond.” Smith added.
Weldon will participate in the Southern Series of the ASA Late Model Series and selected other late model events. SS Racing hopes to have Weldon compete in at least 25-30 events in 2006.
Short Track Legend, Butch Miller, has been named crew chief and coach for Weldon’s development program. Miller, a 3-time ASA Champion is enthusiastic about his newfound role in supporting young talent.
“I am really excited about working with Andrew,” said Miller. “He takes instruction well and adapted to the track quickly during our test sessions.”
“We plan to test in Florida for 7-10 days, with both of us on the track. The goal is to get him a significant amount of quality seat time before the season starts,” Miller continued.
Weldon views his new opportunity as a major step in building the future of his career. He’s been operating his own program with little professional support."It is an honor to drive for a team like SS Racing,” said Weldon, the 22-year-old racer from Glen Mills (Penn). “With Butch Miller and Deon Deneau as mentors, the potential is limitless,”
Weldon knows the competition will be higher and the learning curve will be greater than anything he’s experienced to date. But he’s fired up for the challenge and carries a humble confidence that he’ll learn and succeed in this tough game.
SS Racing’s driver’s development program goes way beyond the race track. Weldon will learn marketing, Fan & Media Relations, Representing a Major Corporate Sponsor and the overall politics involved with motorsports, which is something the Weldon family is no stranger to.
Andrew Weldon is the youngest son of Congressman Curt Weldon who represents the Seventh Congressional District of Pennsylvania and is the most senior Republican in the Pennsylvania Delegation. Congressman Weldon (Dad) has taken leadership roles on a wide variety of issues, ranging from national security to the environment.
The SS Racing marketing staff continues to develop sponsorship opportunities for 2006 and further announcements are expected in the coming weeks. SS Racing has been known for its innovative sponsorship programs for both large and small corporations.
