Andrew Weldon Completes Week Long Testing…
Indianapolis, Ind. (December 12, 2005) - Andrew Weldon completed an initial week-long testing tour with SS Racing to kick off his drivers development program. The tour took him daily to short tracks around Florida such as New Smyrna, Lakeland and Bronson Speedways. His coach, Butch Miller gave high regards for Weldon’s performance.
“He did better than expected,” said Miller. “We were very impressed with his ability to adapt quickly, take in information and apply it to his driving. Most of all, he improved with each test session.”
Kris Stump, another new driver on the SS Racing Roster was on hand to support Weldon as well. Stump will run in the ASA Challenge Series this year, but has prior experience in the former ASA Touring Car, which is the car Weldon drove for his testing.
“It was great to have so much experience and support behind me,” said Weldon. To have those guys coaching me, especially Butch helping me, was invaluable to my learning curve.”
SS Racing has not announced exact plans for Weldon’s 2006 season. But his success through the recent test days seems to imply a race may be coming sooner than later for him.
“I learned a great deal this week and my confidence on pavement has gone way up. I look forward to racing and now have confidence that I’ll be very competitive,” said Weldon.
Team owner, Ken Smith, was also pleased with the way the program had gone this week.
“It was a unique concept to take Weldon on a tour to various tracks and test him all in the same week. But it proved effective in letting us know his strengths and weaknesses as a driver. And it provided him valuable experience and seat time,” said Smith.
“Now we can develop the next appropriate steps for him,” Smith added.
