Weldon Feels Prepared For First-Ever Asphalt Race Start

New Smyrna, Fl. (Friday January 13, 2006) - Andrew Weldon is as prepared as one can be to make his first-ever start in an Asphalt Late Model Race. SS Racing has entered him in the Riverfest Late Model 100 at New Smyrna Speedway. Located just south of Daytona Beach the track boasts a very fast and competitive ½ mile banked oval.

SS Racing hopes to get Weldon plenty of seat time before the start his primary focus in the ASA Late Model Southern Series. He’s been testing during the past two months at various tracks around Florida including New Smyrna Speedway. Short Track Legend, Butch Miller has been coaching Weldon.

“Butch has been a big help,” says Weldon, the 22-year old rookie from Thornbury Township, Penn. “I learned a lot from him about my line, braking points and when to get on and off the gas.”

Weldon is looking for a solid run in what could possibly be his toughest racing event yet in his young career. He’s upbeat, and feeling prepared and ready for the challenge. He’s also thankful to his team for removing the pressure although he knows before the race starts he’ll be nervous.

“The nice thing about driving for SS Racing is that people like Butch Miller (Crew Chief), Ken Smith (Team Owner) and Deon Deneau (Crew Chief) have all been down these roads before,” said Weldon. “They have taken much of the pressure off and are encouraging me to be safe, conservative and just finish. No one is pressuring me to win right now.”

“This is a totally different kind of racing than I’ve done, so there is a learning curve here that I have take one step at a time,” continued Weldon. “It’s my goal to start and finish the race. I’m not worrying about where I finish. That will be an added benefit to the overall goal of just finishing. Win’s will come with time.”

Qualifying for the Riverfest Late Model 100 begins Saturday afternoon. The Green Flag drops at 7pm. Stay tuned to www.SSRacingOnline.com for more news and race results from New Smyrna Speedway!
