Weldon Continues Successful Finish at Illiana

Indianapolis, Ind. (Tuesday July 18, 2006) - Andrew Weldon started 9th and finished 6th Saturday night completing another solid run at Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Ind. Weldon was hoping for a repeat win, but according to Crew Chief Butch Miller the race was Weldon’s best so far this year.

“I feel it was Andrew’s best race,” said Miller. “He is really getting a head for the game.” Miller commented that Weldon made some smart decisions in the race to complete a consistent and clean finish. Weldon was asked if he agreed with his mentor about obtaining a greater understanding of being a consistent driver.

“In the beginning I was concerned with getting as many positions on the start as I could,” said Weldon. “I feel more comfortable in the car now. I feel like I know the car better and can judge when to go after it and when not to.”

The team battled a tight condition with the car all day. They also had a control arm spacer come out causing more distraction from hitting on the best setup. Despite the trouble Weldon was able to come up with a top ten starting position. During the race he fought the tight condition again. But rather than pushing an imperfect car Weldon drove with a veteran’s patients to a solid 6th place finish.

SS Racing and Andrew Weldon will return to Illiana Speedway on July 29th for their 5th consecutive race at the track. In the last four races the team has finished in the top ten three times with one win. Weldon hopes to leave his 5 race streak at Illiana with a top five.

“My Parents and my Girlfriend are coming to the next race,” expressed Weldon. “I would really like to make all of them proud. I would consider it a successful night if we could finish in the top 5.”
